Welcome back to the 2% Solution Podcast, where we dive deep into the strategies that make us better in every aspect of our lives. I'm your host, diamond Well, and today we're talking about something close to my heart and crucial for anyone in a relationship or anyone looking to be in one. We're unpacking the four essential statements every person should know to be successful in a relationship. And yes, we're keeping that light with some humor because, let's face it, we all need a good laugh, especially when we're navigating the complex world of relationships. Alright, let's dive in. The first powerful statement is I'm sorry, it sounds simple, right, but the power of a genuine apology cannot be overstated. It's not just about admitting fault, it's about acknowledging the impact of our actions on our partner. Research from the Journal of Psychopharmacology yes, there's a study for everything shows that apologies can actually reduce stress and foster forgiveness, making it a cornerstone of any strong relationship. Now onto the second statement. You're right, this one can sometimes taste a bit like swallowing your pride sandwich without any mail, but recognizing and validating your partner's perspective is like relationship glue. It's not about who wins the argument, it's about respecting each other's viewpoints. A study from the University of California found that couples who practice mutual respect and understanding has significantly happier relationships. And I mean who doesn't want to be happier? Moving to our third essential phrase, I'm wrong, that one's tough. For many of us, anything we're wrong is like wearing a tight shirt after holiday season feasting. It's uncomfortable, but owning our mistakes is critical. It shows integrity and it builds trust. According to a survey by the Gottman Institute, couples who are not afraid to admit their faults and work on them together are 10 times more likely to have a strong, enduring relationship. Now last, but this is certainly not least, it's the simple three little words I love you, when said with sincerity, are incredibly powerful. They're not just a reminder of your feelings, they're an affirmation of your commitment. The National Marriage Project found that expressing love and appreciation is one of the top predictors about happy and long lasting partnership.
Dai Manuel:Now let me share a bit of a personal story. Many of you might remember my TEDx talk on vulnerability. Christy and I had hit a rough patch where these four statements became more than just words. They were lifelines. There was a moment when pride and stubbornness had us, quite frankly, at a standstill, but through saying I'm sorry, acknowledging you're right, admitting I'm wrong and reaffirming I love you, we found our way back to each other. It wasn't easy, but it was worth every bit of the discomfort and vulnerability.
Dai Manuel:These four statements, while simple, are incredibly powerful tools in nurturing and maintaining a healthy relationship. They require humility, respect and unconditional love of all of all else. Remember, it's not about losing, it's about winning together. So all to all the men, the women, the thens out there and really anyone listening I challenge you to use these four statements in your relationships, watch how they transform your connection and strengthen your bond. Thank you for tuning into another episode of the 2% Solution Podcast. I'm Daimon Welk, reminding you that in relationships, just like in life, it's the small things, done consistently, that make the biggest difference. Here's to building stronger bonds, one word at a time. And until next time, keep striving for that 2% improvement in everything you do. Take care and love Daimon.
