Speaker 1:

Hey there, 2% Tribe. Welcome back to another episode of the 2% Solution Podcast, where we're all about making small changes for big impacts in our lives. I'm your host, diamond Well, and today we're diving into a topic that's at the very core of personal development the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. But first let's take a step back and look at how these terms came to be. Back in the 1970s, psychologist Carol Dweck began researching people's beliefs about intelligence. She discovered that some individuals believed their intelligence was fixed, that they were born with a certain level of smarts and that's it. Others, however, believe that intelligence could be developed through effort and learning, and thus the concepts of fixed and growth mindsets were born. So what exactly are these mindsets? Well, a fixed mindset is characterized by the belief that our abilities and intelligence are static. People with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges, they give up easily and they see effort as fruitless. On the other hand, though, a growth mindset is all about believing in the power of effort and learning. Those with a growth mindset embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks and often see failure as an opportunity to grow. Now you might be wondering how do these mindsets show up in our lives. Let me give you an example. Imagine you're faced with a difficult task at work. If you have a fixed mindset, you might think I'm not good at this, I'll never be able to figure this out. But if you have a growth mindset, you'll approach the task with a different attitude, often thinking something like this this is challenging, but I know I can learn and I can get better at it. But here's the good news we're not stuck with one mindset or the other. We have the power to shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset and back again, and, trust me, at times it's worth it. Research has shown that people with a growth mindset are more resilient, perform better in school and at work and are happier overall.

Speaker 1:

So how can we make the shift ourselves? Well, it all starts with awareness. Pay attention to that voice in your head, the one that tells you what you can and cannot do when you catch yourself thinking in a fixed mindset, challenge those thoughts. Remind yourself that you're capable of growth and of improvement. Next, embrace challenges and failures as opportunities for growth. Instead of seeing setbacks as evidence of your limitations, see them as valuable learning experiences. Remember, every great success story is filled with failures along the way and finally cultivate a love of learning, seek out new experiences, take risks and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. The more you challenge yourself, the more your mindset will shift toward growth. So there you have it the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset, and how to make the shift toward growth. Remember, it's not about where you start, it's about where you're headed. And with a little effort and a whole lot of determination, the sky is quite literally at the limit.
